Mr. Yuhasz - Computer Awareness

Curriculum: 6th Grade

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Using project-based instruction, students are introduced to the principles of technology in the 21st century while building upon their keyboarding skills. This course should also help students to use computers and other technology effectively in their lives, thus providing a connection of techonolgy in thier chosen careers.

The goal of this course is to provide our students with an introduction to the principles of computer science, basic keyboarding skills, Internet safety and usage, and computer applications. Students will explore how personality traits and personal values align with career choices and will develop a career plan. Personal, professional, and ethical standards of behavior for the workplace will be examined and reinforced in the classroom.

PACING SCHEDULE:

Week 1- Introduction to Woodward at Walden and our Computer Classroom
Weeks 2-9 Typing Time using Typing Agent. This can also be worked on at home
Weeks 2-3 Word Processing Skills using Microsoft Word 2016
Week 4 Internet Safety & Research
Week 5 Spreadsheets
Weeks 6-7 Careers Data Base
Weeks 8-9 Power Point & Desktop Publishing

Daily/Participation:              50

Tests/Projects:                      30%

Final Exam                           20%
